Help Stop the Yulin Dog Meat Festival

This festival is cruel and hideous. It started in 2010 and has no religious or ceremonial value. The dogs are beaten and then skinned alive — crying out in agony as people cheer on the butchers. Then the poor creatures are fed to people all over the city.
I consider my dogs as family members, and would do anything to protect them. Anyone who has ever had a dog knows how sensitive, loyal, loving and trusting dogs are.
It’s time to STOP the Yulin Dog Meat Festival permanently!

Connecticut considering weaponizing drones

And you thought “1984” had passed? Think again….

Mountain Republic

Connecticut lawmakers are considering whether the state should become the first in the country to allow police to use drones outfitted with deadly weapons, a proposal immediately met with concern by civil rights and liberties advocates.

The bill would ban the use of weaponized drones, but exempt police. Details on how law enforcement could use drones with weapons would be spelled out in new rules to be developed by the state Police Officer Standards and Training Council. Officers also would have to receive training before being allowed to use drones with weapons.

“Obviously this is for very limited circumstances,” said Republican state Sen. John Kissel, of Enfield, co-chairman of the Judiciary Committee that approved the measure Wednesday and sent it to the House of Representatives. “We can certainly envision some incident on some campus or someplace where someone is a rogue shooter or someone was kidnapped and you try to…

Trump Asks Why Intelligence Committee Isn’t Probing The Clintons

News you can use…..

Mountain Republic

Following a day of drama involving the Chair of the House Intelligence Committee, Devin Nunes, who has been under constant onslaught by Democrats ever since his disclosure last week that Trump had indeed been the object of surveillance, and whose Democrat peer at the Intel panel, Adam Schiff, on Monday night called for Nunes to recuse himself, moments ago Trump waded into the news cycle when he asked on Twitter why the House Intelligence Committee is not investigating the Clintons for various ties of their own to Russia. He then slammed the ongoing anti-Russian witch hunt, saying “the Russia story is a hoax.”

“Why isn’t the House Intelligence Committee looking into the Bill & Hillary deal that allowed big Uranium to go to Russia, Russian speech, money to Bill, the Hillary Russian ‘reset,’ praise of Russia by Hillary, or Podesta Russian Company. Trump Russia story is a hoax. #MAGA!”…

For the second time in two years, lawmakers in New Hampshire are on the verge of sending a bill to make the Second Amendment your concealed carry permit to the governor.

Last fall, staunch anti-gun Democrat Gov. Maggie Hassan vetoed a measure placed on her desk to codify the right to carry without first being issued a permit. A new proposal this session passed the House with a 206-146 vote earlier this year and the Senate 14-10 this week.

“This is our opportunity to ensure the Second Amendment rights of our constituents are upheld,” said supporter Sen. Gary Daniels, R-Milford, on the Senate floor.

The legislation, HB 582, keeps the state’s current concealed carry permit system that has been in place since 1923. However, it makes clear that the…

North Dakota: The 2nd Amendment Is Your Concealed Carry Permit

About damn time!

Mountain Republic

On Thursday Governor Doug Burgum (R) signed legislation allowing North Dakota residents to carry a handgun concealed for self-defense without a permit.

The legislation–House Bill 1169–passed the House on February 21 by a vote of 83-9. It passed the Senate on March 21 by a vote of 34-13.

USNews reports that the permitless carry law allows law-abiding citizens 18 and over to carry a concealed handgun for self-defense as long as they “have a valid ID and notify law enforcement of the weapon during instances such as a traffic stop.”

According to the West Fargo Pioneer, upon signing the bill Governor Burgum said, “North Dakota has a rich heritage of hunting and a culture of deep respect for firearm safety. As a hunter and gun owner myself, I strongly support gun rights for law-abiding citizens. House Bill 1169 allows citizens to exercise their Second Amendment right under the U.S. Constitution.”

Cheerios “Save The Bees” Seed Campaign Could Actually Spread Invasive Species

News you can USE!

Mountain Republic

General Mills came up with an interesting idea to bolster the dwindling population of bees in North America. They decided to deliver seeds for bee-friendly plants to anyone who wanted them, free of charge. By last Friday, the company had given away 1.5 billion of these seeds.

Now it appears that their “Save the Bees” campaign has backfired. It turns out there’s a serious problem with some of the seeds that they are haphazardly delivering to locations all over the US. Lifehacker.com reports that many of these seeds are invasive in certain parts of the country. And best case scenario, many of these seeds won’t have any positive effect on bee populations.

Forget-me-not is banned as a noxious weed in Massachusetts and Connecticut, for example. The California poppy is nice in California, but listed as an “invasive exotic pest plant” in southeastern states. And many of the flowers on this…

What is arguably America’s least-well-placed nuclear power plant is leaking radiation into the sea.

The University of Miami has found that the Turkey Point Nuclear Power Plant, located just south of Miami, has caused levels of tritium, a radioactive isotope, in Biscayne Bay to spike to 200-times higher than normal levels.

“This is one of several things we were very worried about,” South Miami Mayor Philip Stoddard, who is also a biological sciences professor at Florida International University, told the Miami New Times. “You would have to work hard to find a worse place to put a nuclear plant, right between two national parks and subject to hurricanes and storm surge.”

Turkey Point came online in the early 1970s; it supplies power to more than one million homes in South Florida. The new study blames the leaks on…
